Day 465
Looking back and moving forward
Today marks 465 days of daily writing and journaling.
One year and 100 days.
As you’ve read in previous newsletters, it’s been a great ride. I’m honing in on my writing skills, I’ve met incredible people along the way, and I continue to work through old fears that held me back.
I spend more time writing NOW than I ever have in my life. I’ve learned so much about commitment to my craft in the past 15 months. With a stable routine, I have no plans to give up.
So… what am I actually DOING?
My writing anniversary and Twitter-versary were both on February 1st this year. As part of my celebrations, I noticed I set an intention in my journal to do three things this year. With no clear direction or deadline in sight.
“I started on Twitter on February 1st one year ago to ‘embark on a new chapter in my life…!’
And what a chapter it’s been!
This year I look forward to submitting more work, testing out a new (Twitter) Space with Mark, and launching my newsletter. I know it can be done because I believe in myself NOW more than ever!!”
I’ve talked about the importance of reflection yet I don’t spend enough time looking back at what I committed myself to do. Is it due to a deep-rooted fear of letting myself down? Am I afraid to let others down? How do I be true to myself along the journey?
More importantly, how did I make out in the last 100 days?
✅ Submitting more work:
My definition of “work” is sending a personally written piece to a publication for consideration. At the time of writing the spell on February 1st, I had only sent in one body of work (it was recently turned down). I did make the time to write an essay for consideration for a different publication. Fingers crossed! I am also enjoying the story prompts on REEDSY. I submitted a short story in March to one of their weekly contests.
⛔ Testing out a new (Twitter) Space with Mark:
Mark (Jaroszewicz) is one of the most talented artists I know. I’m not saying this because he's also my husband. We have some amazing ideas for a new podcast or Twitter Space for artists & creators of all ages, as well as a new website. I don’t want to give more details than that right now. Unfortunately, with my 9-5 work commitments it has been more difficult than expected to launch.
In the meantime, I continue co-hosting a weekly Twitter Space all about JOURNALING. Recently I started a monthly Parenting Space. And we haven’t given up hope about our dream Space. It’s coming…
✅ Launching my newsletter:
Well, you’re reading it! I’ve been consistently sending out a weekly newsletter for 13 weeks straight. It’s been a joy to share parts of my journey with everyone.
Two out of three ain’t bad.
Cue the sparklers (rather than big fireworks)!

An earlier version of me would have put myself down for not ticking off all three items. I want to reflect without dwelling on the past. Moving forward needs to include setting clear intentions for success.
Today, as part of my writing journey, I want to share these new intentions with you!
I will commit over the next 4 months to:
✨ READ books.
I do not read enough. A good friend loaned me two books - “On Writing” by Stephen King and “The Elements of Style “ by William Strunk Jr. & E.B. White. I want to dedicate more time to BOOK reading (no Victor Newman & no Twitter for a few moments!). I would also like to add other short stories or memoirs to my reading list.
By the end of August: finish the above two books + read another novel or memoir.
✨ RECORD all my poems.
I have poems written in multiple journals. Time to read through and type them all out! I want them all in one place, which makes them easier to find.
By the end of August (in progress): type out all poems into Google Docs.
✨ REVISIT the NOTION App.
I prefer to journal with pen and paper first thing in the morning before I write other words. I was introduced to Notion a month ago and sent a free journaling template to try out. It wasn’t user-friendly for me but I’m willing to try it out again.
By the end of August: use the NOTION app, at minimum once a week, for 10 weeks.
✨ CHOP, CHOP, CHOP!
My newsletters are becoming super-long essays. I wrote a newsletter last week that was 2,000 words long. I cut it down to 1,500+, which was still pretty long.
By the end of August: learn new skills on how to edit writing, and/or slice up newsletter content into parts (or chapters).
Thanks for being part of this exercise with me. I am now accountable to you all. 😬
Enjoy the journey, friends.
